Top Tips for First-Time Paintballers

If you have never played paintball before and you are playing this weekend, here are 5 tips that will give you an advantage over the rest of the players.

Dress Appropriately

When playing paintball, it’s important to wear the right clothing to ensure your safety and comfort. We recommend wearing long sleeved shirts and trousers that are made from durable and breathable fabrics. Additionally, it’s important to wear comfortable shoes with good traction, as you’ll be running around a lot. Whatever you wear, make sure that you are wearing old clothes. The paintballs don’t usually stain, but if you do rip something, then it’s better that it’s not your Sunday best. Many people play in trainers, but we do recommend boots, especially after it has been raining.

Protect Your Face and Head

Your head and face are the only place where you can be injured. The great thing is that we provide face and head protection in the form of a paintball mask. Our paintball masks have thermal (Double Glazed) lenses, so they don’t steam up. If you can see your opposition, you can shoot them.

Communicate with Your Teammates

Paintball is all about communication. It may sound romantic to go out on your own and shoot the whole of the opposing team yourself, but in reality this doesn’t work. You need your team mates to back you up and the best way to communicate that is with your voice. Don’t be scared to shout. Unless of course you have infiltrated the oppositions territory and you are hidden in a bush with the baddies all around you. In that case, it could pay to keep your mouth shut.

Stay Behind Cover

It may sound obvious, but staying behind cover is one of the best ways not to get shot. People are usually hit with paintballs when they are running from one cover to another. Don’t be too hasty, relax and let the opposition come to you and shoot them as they leave cover.

Keep Your Paintball Gun Clean and Maintained

A clean and maintained gun is essential to keep you shooting straight and keep you in the game. At the Yorkshire Outdoor Activity Park, we have a dedicated marshal who’s only job is to make sure your gun is fully aired up, cleaned perfectly and ready for action. This takes the guesswork out for you. For every game you will have a fully aired up and cleaned gun, so whatever happens in the game area, you won’t be able to blame the gun.
