Paintball York
Looking for paintball in York? Yorkshire Outdoor Activity Park has been running outdoor paintball events since 1988 at our established venue on the Escrick Park Estate, conveniently located between York and Selby.
Our permanent paintball game zones include enormous purpose built structures, woodland battlefields, a real crashed aircraft, a 10,000 square foot bunker and what we believe to be the world’s largest paintball bridge. These are not temporary inflatable layouts or a few barricades placed in a field. They are large scale environments created specifically for exciting, tactical paintball games.
The quality of the venue has also been recognised by the UKPSF Site of the Year award, the only dedicated site award in UK paintball.
Standard paintball is suitable from age 12, which means School Year 7 and above. The standard minimum group size is 10 players, and you can choose from two hour or four hour sessions with 300, 500 or 1,000 paintballs included.
Every booking includes the paintball equipment, protective mask, overalls, air supply, a full safety briefing and marshal supervised games.

UK Paintball Awards Site of the year
Yorkshire Outdoor Activity Park was awarded the UK Paintball Awards Site of the Year award.
Site of the Year is the only dedicated site award in paintball, making it particularly meaningful to us as an established outdoor venue.
The award recognises the overall quality of a paintball site rather than one isolated feature. This includes the playing environments, organisation, facilities and experience provided to players. While awards are valuable, the real strength of the venue comes from decades of continually developing the site and learning what creates a memorable paintball day.

Outdoor Paintball Near York Since 1988
Yorkshire Outdoor Activity Park has been running paintball events since 1988.
That history matters because permanent paintball venues develop over time. Game zones are refined, structures are expanded and scenarios are adjusted based on how groups actually play.
Our maps are not temporary layouts assembled for occasional sessions. They are established outdoor environments designed around movement, teamwork, communication and different styles of paintball gameplay.
Over the years, we have welcomed:
The experience gained from running paintball for different group types helps our marshals select games that suit the number, confidence and ability of the players attending.
Permanent Paintball Maps and Game Zones
One of the main reasons groups choose Yorkshire Outdoor Activity Park is the scale and variety of the game environments. Different zones encourage different styles of play. One game may require careful movement and teamwork, while the next may involve a fast attack, a defensive stand or a battle around buildings and fixed structures.
The exact maps used during a session will depend on the package, group size, timetable, ground conditions and decisions made by the marshals. Groups should not assume that every game zone will be used during every visit, but the variety available allows sessions to remain engaging from one game to the next.

Feature Map
The Worlds Largest Paintball Bridge
One of our most recognisable features is the enormous paintball bridge. Measuring more than 300 feet long and around 50 feet high, it creates a dramatic centrepiece for games involving attack, defence, movement and control of key positions. Unlike a small footbridge added as scenery, this is a major structure that changes the way a game is played.
Players may need to coordinate their advance, protect teammates, use available cover and decide whether to push forwards or hold a defensive position. The bridge creates the sort of memorable paintball moment that is difficult to reproduce on a basic woodland field.

Feature Map
The 10,000 Square Foot Bunker
Our bunker complex provides a completely different paintball experience.
At approximately 10,000 square feet, it supports close quarters games where communication, awareness and quick decisions become particularly important. The enclosed layout creates shorter engagement distances, changing directions and unexpected encounters.
Players who feel comfortable moving through open woodland may find the bunker presents an entirely different challenge. It is particularly suited to structured attack and defend scenarios, clearance games and objective based missions.
Feature Map
The Real Crashed Aircraft

A real crashed aircraft forms the centrepiece of one of our most distinctive paintball environments.
Rather than acting as simple decoration, the aircraft creates a recognisable objective around which marshals can build memorable games. Teams may be required to reach it, defend it, recover an objective or stop the opposing side taking control.
The combination of an authentic aircraft and the surrounding cover gives the area a sense of scale and purpose that cannot be achieved with ordinary wooden barricades.

Feature MapS
Outpost, Speedball and other Game Areas

The Outpost includes a bridge and four towers, creating a strong central position that teams may need to attack or defend.
Towers give players elevated positions and wider views, while the bridge creates a natural route that can become heavily contested. Successful teams often need to divide their attention between controlling the central structures and preventing opponents from moving around the sides.
The venue includes several other permanent game environments, including, Speedball and Chocolate Island. Each area has its own layout and style.
Speedball encourages quicker movement and faster games, while larger scenario based environments place more emphasis on objectives, communication and tactical positioning. This range gives marshals flexibility when selecting games for younger groups, first time players, experienced participants and larger sessions.
What Happens on the day?
Knowing what to expect can make a first paintball session feel much less daunting.

Arrival and Check In
Players should arrive at the time stated in their booking information.
Arriving promptly gives the group enough time to check in, prepare and receive equipment before the safety briefing begins.
Late arrivals may miss essential parts of the session and could delay the wider group.

Equipment Issue
Players receive their paintball equipment, including a marker, mask and overalls.
The team will explain how the equipment should be worn and used. This is also the time to raise any concerns about mask fit or equipment comfort.

Safety Briefing
Every player must attend the full safety briefing before entering a live game area.
The briefing explains:
Participants who do not follow the safety rules may be removed from a game or session.

Team Allocation
Players are divided into teams.
Depending on numbers, your group may play together, be divided between teams or join other customers attending the same session.
Marshals aim to create fair teams and enjoyable games based on the number and experience of the participants.

The Games
Before each game, the marshal explains the objective, boundaries, starting positions and any special rules.
Games may include:
The exact games used will depend on the group and session.

Breaks and Paint Collection
Players return to the safe zone between games to rest, clean equipment where required and collect additional paintballs.
Markers must be made safe before entering the safe area, and protective masks remain in place until players are back in the designated safe zone.

Is Paintball Suitable for Beginners?
Yes.
Most people attending group paintball sessions are not regular players.
Every session begins with equipment instruction and a full safety briefing. Marshals explain each game before it starts and supervise the action throughout. You do not need military knowledge, exceptional fitness or previous paintball experience.
Beginners often contribute just as much as experienced players because paintball rewards communication, awareness and teamwork as well as speed and accuracy.Someone who is reluctant to rush forwards may become an effective defender. Another player may be confident moving between positions and helping the team complete an objective.
There is no single correct style of play.

What should you Wear for paintball?
Wear old, comfortable clothing beneath the provided overalls.
Paintball is an outdoor activity, and the ground can be muddy, uneven or wet depending on the weather.
We recommend:
Open toe footwear, sandals and sliders are not suitable. Paintball fill is intended to wash out, but we cannot guarantee that every mark will come out of every fabric. Avoid wearing valuable or delicate clothing. Long hair should be tied back, and jewellery or valuables should be removed before play where possible.

Paintball for Ages 12 and Above

Paintball Birthday parties Near York

Paintball is a popular birthday activity for teenagers and adults who want something more active than a conventional party.
The games give everyone a shared challenge, while the team format encourages players to communicate and work together. A paintball birthday can suit:
The two hour package may be suitable for first time or younger birthday groups, while the four hour packages provide a longer experience and more opportunities to play across different game areas. The standard minimum group size is 10 players.

Stag and hen party paintball near york

Paintball remains a popular choice for stag and hen groups because it gives everyone an activity to share and creates natural competition between friends.
The four hour packages are often suitable for groups wanting paintball to form a substantial part of the day.
The 1,000 paintball package may appeal to groups who expect to shoot frequently and prefer a larger paint allocation to be included from the beginning.
Standard sessions may include other customers unless an exclusive booking has been arranged.
Any requirements for a private session should be discussed before booking.
Players must arrive fit to participate and able to follow all safety instructions. Anyone whose condition or behaviour creates a safety concern may be prevented from playing.
For stag and hen enquiries, call 01757 289322 with your date, expected group size and preferred package.

Corporate Paintball And team events

Paintball can be an effective shared activity for corporate groups because each game gives teams a clear objective.
Players may need to:
The experience is competitive without requiring participants to have played before.
Our large game areas, indoor safe zone and capacity for organised groups make the venue suitable for company events of different sizes.
Corporate organisers can choose a standard paintball package or contact us to discuss a larger event and possible additional activities.

Paintball for Sports Teams and Clubs

Paintball works well for sports teams because participants are already familiar with communication, shared objectives and friendly competition.
However, success on a football, rugby or hockey pitch does not automatically guarantee success in a paintball game.
The unfamiliar environment requires players to adjust, communicate and develop new tactics. Paintball may be suitable for:
Organisers should confirm participant ages and group numbers before booking.

Facilities for Large paintball groups

Yorkshire Outdoor Activity Park was developed to accommodate substantial organised events as well as ordinary group bookings.
The site includes a large indoor safe area with capacity for up to 300 players.
This provides a sheltered location where groups can:
The indoor space is particularly useful during wet or colder weather and helps keep larger events organised. Free on site parking is also available.

Are Paintball Sessions Private?
Standard paintball sessions are not automatically private.
Your group may play alongside other customers booked into the same session. This can help create larger teams, fuller games and a more varied experience. The standard minimum group size is 10 players, but this does not necessarily mean that a group of 10 receives exclusive use of the venue or game maps.
Private or exclusive arrangements may be possible for larger groups, subject to availability and the details of the booking. Call 01757 289322 before booking if exclusivity is important to your group.

Can Spectators Watch Paintball?
Spectator arrangements may depend on the game area, session and available safe viewing positions.
Paintball is played across a large outdoor site, so spectators may not be able to follow the group into every game zone.Anyone attending without playing must remain in the areas identified by staff and follow all venue instructions.
Contact us before booking if parents, friends or other non-participants intend to attend.

Can Paintball Continue in the Rain?
Paintball normally continues in ordinary rain.
The game zones are outdoors, and changing weather is part of the experience. The venue also has a large indoor safe area where players can prepare and regroup between games.
Wet weather can make the ground muddy or slippery, so suitable footwear is particularly important. In unusually severe conditions where safety may be affected, the venue will make the final decision on whether play can continue.
Paintball Compared with Other Activities
Paintball is a physical, tactical team activity. It may not be the right choice for every group, particularly where participants are below the minimum age or do not want to be hit by paintballs.

Paintball or Laser Tag
Laser tag uses electronic equipment and does not involve paintball impacts.
It can suit groups wanting team games and outdoor movement without paint, masks or ammunition purchases. Paintball generally feels more physical and realistic because players fire paintballs and must manage their ammunition.

Paintball or Gelball
Gelball uses small hydrated gel balls and is available for younger participants through the relevant children’s activity sessions.
Standard paintball uses conventional paintball markers and is suitable from age 12.

Paintball or Archery
Archery is calmer and focuses on individual accuracy, posture and consistency.
Paintball involves more movement, teamwork and changing objectives. It is likely to suit groups wanting a faster and more physical experience.

Paintball or Axe Throwing
Axe throwing takes place on a controlled target range and focuses on individual throwing technique.
Paintball is played over much larger game zones and requires teams to move, communicate and complete objectives.
Can paintball be combined with another activity?
Depending on group size, ages, timing and availability, paintball may be combined with another activity at Yorkshire Outdoor Activity Park. Possible options include:

Each activity has its own minimum age, group size, session duration and price. Contact us before booking if you are planning a multi activity birthday, corporate event, stag party or larger group day.
